Crack 9 Dog Breeding Problems With D.i.y. Canine Artificial Insemination

September 27th, 2011 admin No comments

Every dog breeder experiences breeding dog mating hassles from time to time. In my long experience as a Veterinarian and breeder, I've had to deal with just about all of them! But as you’ll discover DIY canine artificial insemination can sort out most issues and is not difficult to master.

Here are some familiar dog breeding problems that canine artificial insemination helps to conquer:

Turning to AI because of behavioral dilemmas is a common reason for dog breeders.

While an experienced stud dog can often unerringly detect receptivity in bitches, many, especially young dogs, can’t work out what to do! This can often be due to past chastisement of mounting behavior. And some male dogs, in particular the more submissive ones that are automatically on the lowest level of the canine social pecking order, don’t try very hard.  And in many cases, an over-excited dog may develop an erection before it’s time for penetration.

Female dogs can be aggressive towards the advances of the male dog and not permit breeding.  While this is often a consequence of inappropriate scheduling of the mating – she’s not ready – it is also common for a bitch to be frigid.  Unsupervised interactions with such unwilling partners can damage a dog's libido.   Conversely some male dogs are so aggressive that natural mating is unsafe.

AI can overcome these problems and also protects the stud dog from the chance of injury that may eventuate if the bitch struggles a lot during a tie.

Some stud dog owners elect canine artificial insemination because of the fear that their valuable dog will pick up an infection from the bitch if allowed to mate naturally.

AI can be used to surmount a substantial size difference between bitch and dog.

In the male, AI is also a solution to skirt problematic weakness or tenderness when mounting due to injury, arthritis or prostatic disease. A dog with a missing limb or injury to spine or a rear leg may be unable stand to tie bitches. Providing, of course, that the disability is not a reflection of inherent genetic or structural faults, canine artificial insemination can be utilized to keep him reproducing.

Being territorial animals, the confidence and thus sexual behavior of the dog is greatest when they are on their home turf.  To ensure natural mating and avoid sabotaging the male dog's sexual behavior, it is best to deliver the female dog to the male dog's place of residence. AI is a good alternative when this is not practical.

When the bitch and desired stud are some distance apart, and taking the bitch to the male is not an option, similarly, his semen can be collected and shipped to her.

When offered two bitches in estrus, a male dog may devote all his energy to his favorite and ignore the other.  With AI, two bitches can be inseminated with just one ejaculation, if the quality of the semen is good.

Fresh dog semen can stay viable for six days inside the bitch.  When other commitments prevent a natural mating taking place at the most physiologically favorable time, then an early AI can be successfully used to "cover" the following 3-4 days.

To optimize litter size breeders can elect to inseminate "one last time" just after the sexual interest of the bitch or dog has passed.

Breeders who routinely utilize canine artificial insemination profit from the potential it provides to continually examine their stud's semen.  This is advantageous in picking up fertility problems before they become serious or bring about missed litters.

Rather than overly tiring him by unsuccessful attempts at natural mating and risking spoiling him for natural breeding, a skillfully managed collection can help the dog develop confidence and actually school him for a natural breeding career.

Females should never be mated under the age of 2 years, this is not your problem. It is recommended that Male dogs shouldn't be mated under the age of 1 year. 9 months is too young and he is probably not Sexually mature yet. Wait i little while longer for the best results. Dogs only get mature when at least 10 months of age.

Good Luck :D

Dog Mating – Why Do Dogs ‘Tie’

August 25th, 2011 admin No comments

Commonly what happens after mating is the male will twist around so that the two animals are facing in opposite directions.  They will be tied together.  They may be whining as if they are in distress.  Don't be alarmed the animals are going through the mating process in the natural way.  If you try to separate them it may cause them injury.  Be patient and keep the dogs calm.  They will separate after about twenty to thirty minutes.

Because of the way dogs mate it is almost impossible for the bitch not to be impregnated.  When the dog mounts the bitch the penis is not erect.  The reason that penetration is possible is due to a tiny bone in the penis.  This bone is known as the baculum.  It is the baculum that keeps the penis rigid.  At the base of the penis is tissue.  Blood enters the tissue and it becomes swollen.  Essentially the penis becomes trapped inside the female dog.  This is when the tie happens.  The two dogs remain tied until ejaculation has ceased and the swollen tissue shrinks back to its normal state.

If you have never witnessed two dogs mating you can rest assured that this is quite normal.  In fact, if the tie did not occur you should be concerned.  The tie is simply nature's way of ensuring the sperm enters and stays in the vagina.  Nature doesn't leave anything to chance and gives the female the best chance to become impregnated.  There is another reason for the tie taking place.  A bitch in season will very often attract more than male.  It is not uncommon for a bitch to have a number of dogs around her.  The tie makes sure the process of mating is not stopped by other males trying to mate with a bitch in season.

It's very important the dogs are left to separate without intervention.  If they panic and try to rip apart they probably will be hurt.  There is more chance of a dog becoming distressed during the tie period if it is a first mating experience.  The best you can do is to sit with the dog speaking in a calm low voice so that the animal remains passive and calms down as quickly as possible.

A My Space for Dogs!

A My Space for Dogs!

Burlingame, CA (PRWEB) August 1, 2007

Dogs of all breeds are barking with excitement and wagging their tails in glee, because now they have a My Space too! No longer do they have to use their puppy dog eyes to get their owners off the computer - now they can join in on the fun!

MyDogSpace.com is a new, interactive, online community for all dogs and dog lovers. "There are many social communities for people," says Top Dog Robert Yau, "but we wanted to cater specifically to the lively dog community. We've made a virtual online doggy space where people can discuss dog issues, bark to their neighbors and find doggy pals."

Robert and his doggie co-founder, Hershey, are the proud creators of MyDogSpace.com. "Before we began MyDogSpace.com, there were forums and websites for pet owners, but no central online community for those who love dogs" says Robert. "It finally occurred to me that dog owners of all ages would enjoy their own online space, a central hub, to connect to other dog owners for advice, sharing stories, friendship and meeting up for doggy play dates."

MyDogSpace.com is filling up fast, as people fill out profiles for their favorite canines. Each profile allows for the dog's personality to shine through, by providing space for them to share their sex, age, breed, size, mating habits, favorite foods, toys and tricks, as well as their pet peeves and a place for them to introduce themselves.

"People are getting really creative with their profiles, especially now that we have customizable pages that allow them to choose different colors and backgrounds," shares Robert. "Although the liveliest area of the site seems to be our forums."

MyDogSpace.com has a wide variety of forum areas for people to discuss specific breeds, dog events, adopting a dog, advice and training tips, health and diet, as well as traveling with your dog and how to handle a new puppy. "It's enjoyable for people to get advice from their fellow dog owners," says Robert. "Sharing your experiences is what the Internet is all about."

MyDogSpace.com has a plethora of fun features for its community, such as photo galleries, doggy blogs and leaving comments, or appropriately named barks, on other profiles. "The barks are quite popular," says Robert. "Barks are comments that you post on other's pages, such as 'Jake is so handsome!' and 'What a cute puppy Sasha is!'"

With the instant success of MyDogSpace.com, Robert and Hershey have decided to share the idea with other furry creatures. "We have also launched MyCatSpace.com, a place for cats and cat lovers to connect."

Whether you have a purebred or a mutt, twelve dogs or only one, MyDogSpace.com is the place for dogs, because dogs deserve a My Space too!

You can see 2 Golden Retrievers, Balu and Wendy, mating in this clip. The clip starts at the point where the male "enters" the female and then shows the "hanging" that is part of the dog-mating act. Just look into the faces of our dogs and you can see how much they both enjoy it;-) At the end of the clip Strommer, our "dog-cat" enters the scene to cuddle up to Balu, enjoy! Oh, the music is: John Boswell - Skye Boat Song.
